Good morning! It’s time for a new Lawn Fawnatics challenge and we want to see your best summertime fun creations!! For me, summertime has always been synonymous with the ocean and the beach so I used distress inks to create a Little Mermaid inspired card!
Do you remember that scene in the movie where Ariel is being serenaded by Sebastien and a school of fish swim around her and their movement and bubbles twist her hair up above her head? No? Watch it here to jostle your memory! 😉
I wanted to create a similar look using the adorable school of fish and mermaid from Mermaid For You so I stamped the mermaid with versafine onto a piece of watercolor paper and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I masked the mermaid with a post-it note, stamped the fish onto my watercolor paper with versafine, and heat-embossed them with clear embossing powder. I watercolored my mermaid and fish with distress inks, let them dry completely, and then painted over them with masking fluid. At this point my mermaid looked like a character from Avatar! Ha!
Next I smooshed mermaid lagoon, chipped sapphire, broken china, and tumbled glass distress ink onto a piece of acetate and spritzed it with water. Then I pressed the acetate to the watercolor paper and let the ink soak in for a few seconds. I lifted the acetate and then pressed it down again to add additional blotches. I blotted off the excess ink, let it dry and then repeated the process to get a little more depth. Finally I spritzed it with clean water to create little air bubbles throughout the background. After it was totally dry (like overnight dry) I rubbed off the masking fluid with an eraser to reveal my mermaid and rainbow fish!
I added spectrum noir clear sparkle to the fish and mermaid and then added a layer of glossy accents for a little extra shine. I stamped the sentiment with versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I trimmed it to a fishtail banner and adhered it to the background with foam mounting tape. I trimmed the watercolor paper down to 4″ by 5.25″ and adhered it to a black card base to finish the card!
And now it’s your turn! We want to see your projects using our mood board as your inspiration! You can link up your entries on the Lawn Fawnatics blog and I can’t wait to see what you’ll create! Thanks so much for visiting and have a fabulous Monday!
