Good morning! Today we’re starting what I think will be a very popular challenge for Where Creativity Meets C9 and it’s Watercolor!! You can find all the details and the rest of the design team’s creations here!
We are sponsored by the fantastic Concord & 9th and one lucky random entry will receive a $25 gift certificate for a Concord & 9th shopping spree and our favorite entry will be asked to guest-design for a future challenge!
I really pushed out of my comfort zone for this card using the brand new Watercolor Florals but I’m really glad I did! One of my crafty resolutions is to use different color palettes than my preferred pinks and teals! Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever used this much green in a card before. Ha. I found this palette on pinterest and decided to use it as the color inspiration for the florals.
I started by stamping the main floral image from Wonderful Florals onto watercolor paper with versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. I smushed distress inks onto my palette and watercolored the image one section at a time. I layered the colors to try and get a little more dimension and depth. I also added a little extra shading with copic markers once the image was finished.
Next I added a wash of olive green around the entire image. This was the moment that I started to panic about the color choice as it’s SO out of my wheelhouse but I think it was the right decision. I also pondered shades of purple but I think it would have taken too much of the focus off of the florals. While the panel was drying I stamped the rest of the sentiment onto black cardstock with versamark and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. I trimmed it down and adhered it to the panel with foam mounting tape. I trimmed the panel down and adhered it to a black card base. Finally I added a layer of crystal glaze to the letters in the middle of the florals for a little extra shine! So a lot of watercoloring but also a little bit of copic coloring and shine to kick things up a notch or two! 😉
And now it’s your turn! The challenge ends on February 29th and I can’t wait to see what you’ll create! Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more design inspiration throughout the month! Thanks so much for visiting and have a fabulous week!
