This week we’re challenging you to CASE a Christmas Card Challenges design team member’s card! For those of you who don’t know, CASE stands for “Copy and Share/Steal Everything.” You can choose to copy a design team member’s card exactly or you can use it more as an inspiration for your own creation. Here are a few ideas for how to CASE a card without creating an identical card:
- use the same color scheme
- switch the alignment or card shape (make a vertical card horizontal or make a standard card into a circle or square card)
- use the layout but change the stamps, sentiment, or colors
- use the same techniques or embellishments
There are so many talented designers on the team that it was difficult to just choose one card! But I had a new stamp set that I wanted to play with and there was one card that stood out as the perfect one for me to CASE with that set! So here’s the card I CASEd:
It’s Carol’s card from our 3rd challenge! I loved the skating penguin! He reminded me of this set that I recently ordered from Penny Black!
And here’s my card:
As you can see I kept the layout, colors, and theme the same but changed the direction, sentiment, background, and main focal stamp. My mouse seems decidedly less enthusiastic about his hill than Carol’s penguin!
Anyway to create this card I started off by stamping the mouse with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloring him with copics. I went over his scarf with my clear Wink of Stella brush pen to make it sparkly! For the background I used the Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow stencil with Ranger texture paste on a dark kraft card base. Once that dried I tore a piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock to create my “hill.” I applied Ranger Multi-Medium Matte onto the torn edge and covered it with a coarse glitter. Once the glue was dry I stamped the sentiment from Mama Elephant’s Winter Wonderland set with Mama Elephant Apple pigment ink and heat-embossed it with Hero Arts clear embossing powder. I attached the hill to the card base with foam mounting tape and then fussy cut the mouse and attached him to the hill with a couple mini glue dots. I put a square of foam mounting tape under his head and upper body so that he’d be flush with the hill. To finish the card I tied a piece of red and white American Crafts twine into a bow and wrapped it around the upper 1/3rd of the card.
Please visit the rest of the design team to see who they CASEd! And don’t forget to play along in the challenge! See you there!

Hi Jessica,
I think this is the first time I have been cased and I’d like to thank you for choosing my card! | love your take on it with the very cute mouse about to descend the hill – I’d be covering my eyes like him! I really like how you created the hill and added the icy texture with the glitter.
Hugs
