As a house-warming gift my mom and dad paid for our ADT security system and gave us money towards new furniture. Every major piece of furniture in our house was either inherited, given to us (as children or when we first moved out of the house), or bought at a yard sale/thrift store. As a result, nothing really matches and there are some wild patterns/designs…
So I was super excited to actually pick our furniture from scratch! I’ve been browsing various websites for the past few months: Crate and Barrel, Ikea, Ethan Allen, Bassett Furniture, West Elm, Pottery barn, and Williams-Sonoma Home and narrowing down my likes and dislikes. I was able to visit a Bassett Furniture store in Tyson’s Corner in March (when we picked our kitchen backsplash tiles) and fell in love with one of their sectionals. I’ve ALWAYS wanted a sectional couch…I like the versatility and the customization options. I continued to do some research online but was pretty committed to Bassett Furniture or Crate and Barrel.
This past Friday Steve and I took a day trip up to Tyson’s Corner to visit both stores (conveniently located 5 minutes apart). And we purchased this Beckham sectional from Bassett Furniture!
Ours will be the color of the ottoman pictured and will have the same five pieces, four chairs and an ottoman. And we also selected fabrics for the couch pillows.
This wasn’t a great quality photo but gives a basic idea. The middle gray fabric is the swatch for the couch itself. The teal and gray swatches will each be 2 square accent pillows and the dotted fabric will be 2 kidney shaped pillows.
And they were having a fabulous sale! 30% off the entire set and 25% off any additional purchases which left us enough money to get a new dining room table! It’s one of their “custom design” models so I can’t find a picture of it to show. It’s ebony to match our kitchen cabinets and is a rectangular table with a leaf that will allow us to seat up to 8 people. We can add up to 2 leaves for additional seating if necessary. We didn’t quite have enough for chairs but decided that those could easily be added the next time Bassett has a sale. For now, we’re just happy to have a new table! Speaking of, expect to see a Facebook photo album in the next few days with some of our furniture items for sale or giveaway if anyone is interested! 🙂
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process at Bassett Furniture. The saleslady was very likable and easy to work with. They’re also able to accommodate delivery whenever our house is ready which was an important consideration.
I can’t wait to see how it will look in our house!
And I know Archimedes will be excited, too! When we visit my parents, his favorite spot to be is on their ottoman. So now, Merlin has full glass doors and Archimedes has an ottoman. The dogs are set!

I came across your blog and noticed you purchased your Bassett sectional last year. I was wondering how your experience was with them? Was your couch delivered on time? Were you happy with the quality?

I was very pleased with my experience. We really like the sectional and it’s holding up really nicely. I’m actually hoping to get a few interior house shots posted this week and will include a few of the sectional. It was delivered on time (and I live 90 minutes away from the store) and the delivery men were very professional and courteous. It’s only a few months old so I’m not sure as to how it will hold up 2 years from now but at least for right now it looks just the way it did when it arrived.
