Okay, so I PROMISE that I do own other stamp sets from Lil’ Inker Designs…really, I do! But I simply adore this Inky Flowers stamp set! You can see my previous posts using it here and here. I (pinky) promise my next Lil’ Inker Designs post will use one of their other fabulous stamp sets! 😉
So I was cleaning my craft room recently and found my alcohol inks in the back of a drawer. I’ve only ever used them as background coloring mediums and never really tried to “paint” with them; but I saw a beautiful card by the incredibly talented TaeEun and decided to give it a try! My attempt is definitely a little messier and more imperfect but I think it suits the stamp set really well!
I’ve also been swatching my embossing powders recently and fell in love with this metallic platinum powder that melts to a beautiful champagne gold! I started by stamping the flowers in a random pattern across a piece of yupo watercolor paper with versamark and then heat-embossed them with metallic platinum embossing powder. The yupo paper tends to warp a bit more than regular cardstock so I adhere it to a piece of white cardstock before I emboss which helps keep it smooth. Next I squeezed drops of Purple Twilight, Mermaid, and Sailboat Blue alcohol ink into some of the petals and tilted the panel to move the ink around. I let it be a little messy and didn’t worry if the ink ran outside of the embossed lines. I also added a few drops of blending solution to lighten the color in a few areas and then set it aside to dry overnight. Once it was totally dry I splattered on more alcohol ink letting it dry between each color so the colors wouldn’t blend. I love the vibrancy of the alcohol inks!!
Next I die-cut the Boxed Up So Happy For You die from white cardstock and then pressed my versamark pad all over the die before heat-embossing it with metallic platinum embossing powder. Originally I was going to use a liquid adhesive to adhere the die to my card front but then decided to use something a little stronger. I applied stick-it to both sides of a piece of white cardstock and then ran the Boxed Up So Happy For You die through my Big Shot. I removed the backing from the top of the die and adhered it to the back of the embossed die. Finally I removed the backing from the other side of the die and adhered it to the card panel for a nice, secure fit.
I forget how much fun my alcohol inks are (though it did take awhile to remove a few splatters from my cheeks) and I’ll definitely have to pull them out again soon! Thanks so much for visiting and have a fantastic Friday!
