If you visited the Hero Arts blog this weekend you saw that I created a Hanukkah card using the add-on set, Happy Hanukkah!
I wanted to use the same set today to show you that it can be used to create Christmas (or nondenominational holiday) cards as well as Hanukkah cards! My family celebrates both Christmas and Hanukkah and I love that this set works so beautifully for both!
I’ve had a thing for polar bears my entire life so I was excited to use this modern bear for my card! I stamped him with versamark and heat-embossed him with silver embossing powder before die-cutting him with the coordinating die. I added a coat of spectrum noir clear sparkle and then a thick layer of nuvo crystal glaze. Then I set him aside to dry while I worked on the rest of the card.
For the background I wanted to create an icy, shimmery winter sky so I began by smooshing Pool, Navy, and Soft Lilac shadow inks onto a craft mat and then I spritzed them liberally with the shimmer spray that was included in a previous kit. I used my fingertip to lightly blend the edges where the colors changed and then pressed a piece of distress cardstock into the ink. I held the cardstock in place for 30 seconds to give the ink time to absorb into the paper. I wanted to see the lines of color so I didn’t want to keep resmooshing my paper into the ink so letting it soak ensured that I’d get better coverage. The texture of the distress cardstock meant that some areas of the cardstock remained white but I think this helps with the wintery, icy look! I did spritz the panel again with shimmer spray to make sure the whole panel just gleams when it catches the light! 😉
I stamped the sentiment onto dark navy cardstock and heat-embossed it with silver embossing powder. Then I coated the cardstock with spectrum noir clear sparkle and used one of the dies from the kit to die-cut it. Then I matted it over a tangle of metallic silver thread and adhered it to the background panel with foam mounting tape. I tore a piece of distress cardstock to create a snowy hill for my scene and adhered the bear with foam mounting tape. I matted the background panel to a navy blue card base and then finished the card with a few Frost sequins!
