If you visited the Hero Arts blog this weekend you saw that I created this magical carpet ride card using lots of bright colors with ink blending and the kit items.
Today I decided to use more bright colors but I wanted warmer jewel tones so I reached for my alcohol inks! 😉 If you’re a frequent visitor to my blog or instagram feed you might have noticed that I’ve been on a bit of an alcohol ink kick these days. I love the gorgeous swirls of colors you can get simply by dropping alcohol ink and blending solution on a piece of yupo paper and I thought they would be perfect for creating a mystical, magical background for today’s card!
To start I followed a very similar process to this, I applied drops of alcohol ink in purple twilight, indigo, and wild plum to a piece of yupo paper. I also added drops of gold mixative and alcohol blending solution. I allowed the colors to blend and pushed them around a bit with a camera lens puff cleaner. I did not use a blending tool or blending felt. I much prefer this method of distributing color.
After it dried completely I prepped it with a powder tool and then stamped the Floral Mandala Bold Prints add-on stamp with versamark before heat-embossing it with gold embossing powder. I started with a 5×7 piece of yupo paper and eventually cut it down to 4 by 5.25. When you heat emboss on yupo you need to keep the gun moving all the time to prevent the paper from warping. I’ve also found that using a slightly larger piece of yupo helps with warping. The edges might curl a little but once you trim the paper to your desired size you won’t have any curling or warping. I adhered the yupo paper to the metallic gold cardstock and then stamped the sentiment from Make a Wish onto dark blue cardstock and heat-embossed it with gold embossing powder. I trimmed the sentiment down and adhered it to the alcohol inked background. I also stamped the magic lamp onto a scrap of the metallic gold cardstock and heat-embossed it with gold embossing powder. I die-cut it with the coordinating die and adhered it to the card with foam mounting tape. Finally I added a few metallic gold sequins to finish the card!
And that’s it! 🙂

The floral mandala card you made is soooo pretty!
How do you get your lines so thin? Mine always look thick. Maybe I press down too much on the misti when I stamp… 🙁
jessica frost-ballas says
Hi! Thanks for your sweet comment! I always use my Misti when stamping big intricate stamps and I JUST close the lid and press lightly. I can always reink and stamp again but no need to press when the lines are so thin!
