Today I’m sharing a card showing you a fun way to create a northern lights effect with ink blending and embossing resist!
I also have a video for this card that you can watch below or over at my Youtube channel:
First I blended a variety of inks onto strathmore bristol cardstock. I used Blue Raspberry, Grape Slush, Pool Party, and Berry Smoothie reactive inks on the sky and Tumbled Glass and Broken China distress oxide ink on the water. Next I heat-embossed the background stamp onto the panel with clear embossing powder. Then I came back and blended more ink across the panel! I used the same colors on the sky but also added Chipped Sapphire distress oxide ink and Intens-ified Black ink. On the water I added Blueprint Sketch and Chipped Sapphire distress oxide inks. The embossing powder resists the ink so after I lightly buffed the image with a paper towel I was left with that bright and vivid design!
I decided it needed a little more sparkle so I placed the panel back in my MISTI and restamped the image with embossing ink but this time I heat-embossed it with sparkle embossing powder for a subtle extra shimmer! I die-cut the mountains and trees from silver glitter and black cardstock and adhered them together. I also stamped the whale from the kit and heat-embossed it on black cardstock with silver sparkle embossing powder before die-cutting it with the coordinating die. I adhered them to the panel with a mix of regular adhesive and foam mounting tape.
Finally I added a sentiment from the You’re My Universe add-on set and heat-embossed it on black cardstock with silver embossing powder. I trimmed it down to a thin label and adhered it to the panel with foam mounting tape to finish the card!
And that’s it! Head over and pick up your My Monthly Hero kit and add-ons today! And just a quick note: We are working on restarting our operations in a safe manner, bringing back our production and shipping teams with social distancing, and keeping our warehouse cleaned under the strictest standards. We are first focusing on all of the orders in-house for all of our wonderful and patient customers, subscribers, and international customers, and hope to get back to regular shipping times once we are through what was delayed. We estimate June kits and add-ons will begin shipping on June 19th, after all previous orders have gone out. We thank you for your continued understanding and patience!
To celebrate the release Hero Arts is giving away a $50 gift card as a prize to one blog reader selected from the comments across all of the blogs in the hop so make sure you leave a comment at each hop stop for the most chances to win! Please comment before 11:59PM EST on Sunday, June 14th! You should have arrived from Jennifer and Jill is your next stop!
Thanks so much for visiting and enjoy the hop!!

Jessica, I would so love, love, love to win this kit!! This represents where I live &/or have lived. I lived in Northern BC for 5 years & saw gorgeous northern lights. Where I moved back to was Vancouver Island which is home for me. Whenever we drive we see ocean, islands, Lighthouse & massive snow covered Coastal Mtns. on the mainland of BC. I’d get tons of use out of this kit. I have 8 birthdays & a Graduation card to make for June. I’d best get busy! lol Your card is so beautiful! I love the way you added the sparkle embossing powder over the background stamp.
