Good morning! The July release from Hello Bluebird is now live and it is A-MAZING!! I recently got back from a vacation to Monterey, California and I could have spent my entire trip just watching the otters. So when I saw the new Otter Friends set I had to play with it first! 🙂
First I stamped the otters, fish, and heart from Otter Friends with intense black ink and colored them with copic markers. I added a few accents with a white gelly roll pen and a black glaze pen and then die-cut them with the coordinating dies. I stamped the sentiment onto black cardstock with versamark and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. I added a little spectrum noir clear sparkle to the cheeks of the otters and the heart and then covered the heart with a layer of nuvo crystal glaze.
Next I smooshed shabby shutters and evergreen bough distress ink onto a piece of acetate, spritzed it with water, and pressed it to a piece of watercolor paper. Once it was dry I spritzed it with a water bottle and blotted off the excess water. Then I smooshed chipped sapphire, blueprint sketch, salty ocean, mermaid lagoon, and peacock feathers distress ink onto acetate, spritzed it with water, and pressed it to a second piece of watercolor paper. I spritzed that panel with water and then blotted off the excess. Once both panels were totally dry I die-cut them with the water and grass dies from the new Pond Builder set.
Finally I started assembling the card by layering the water and grass to create my scene. I love the dimension created by the dies! Then I tucked my otter into the grass and adhered the swimming otter and heart with foam mounting tape. Finally I trimmed down my sentiment banner and adhered it to the card with foam mounting tape. It’s not a perfect match but it does remind me of the otters I saw at Moss Landing! Though I think my distress ink water is prettier! 😉
I hope you’ll check out the rest of the release! I’ll be back later this week with a few more cards using other new sets! Thanks so much for visiting and have a fabulous day!

Adorable card. I love otters, too. My daughter in law has an entirely different view. They come into her yard and pull up her plants and generally make a terrible mess.

Ahhh ! I adore otters & these are so cute. I like the effect you got with the water & grass doing this layering effect, very natural looking. Must add these guys to my list x

I just love this card. I’ve been addicted to otters for all my life. Otters and raptors are my favourite animals. Your card is so gorgeous. I’m pea green with envy that you saw them in the wild. I go and stand in front of their enclosure at the zoo literally for hours!!
