Good morning! I’m thrilled to join a few crafters for a Harry Potter Blog Hop today and I’m so excited to share my (possibly excessively) multi-interactive Harry Potter-inspired card!
I created a video tutorial to try and explain my card and you can watch it below or at my Youtube channel!
Honestly, it’s not nearly as complicated as it looks…and it really is probably easiest explained by watching the video but here goes!
I started by creating my night sky/galaxy background on a piece of Tim Holtz distress paper cut to 5.5″ by 8.5″. I blended wilted violet, salty ocean, and cracked pistachio distress oxide ink onto the panel and then blended black soot over the top. I let bits of the color peek through the black soot and added a little more salty ocean and cracked pistachio on top. After it dried I spritzed it with water using two different sprayers to get a variety of water droplet sizes. I blotted off the excess water and let it dry again. Then I spritzed it with WPlus9 shimmer spray (I believe this is discontinued but you could substitute it with Tsukineko frost or sparkle spray for a similar look) and dried it with my heat gun. Finally I flicked the panel with white acrylic paint to create stars and then set it aside to dry completely.
Next I stamped critters from Mama Elephant’s Otterly Adorable, Lunar Animals, Playful Pups, and Reindeer Games with copic-friendly ink on Neenah solar white cardstock and then colored them with copics to resemble various patronuses from the Harry Potter series.
These are the colors I used:
Harry’s Stag:
- E49, E47, E27, E25, E23, E21
Ron’s Jack Russell Terrier:
- E19, E17, E15, E09
Hermione’s Otter:
- E79, E77, E74, E71, E70, R20
Luna’s Hare:
- N4, N2, N1, N0, and R20
Ginny’s Horse:
- E09, E08, E07, E00, E0000, 0 colorless blender
And here’s a close-up of some of the critters:
After I colored the critters I cut them out with my Scan N Cut and then colored the white border with my N6 copic marker so that they would blend better with the background.
Then I created a circuit using my Chibitronics LED stickers on the black cardstock base so that the stars would light up. I also adhered the Stitched Hillside Pop-Up from Lawn Fawn die-cut from black cardstock which helped hide the battery from the Chibitronics circuit.
I adhered vellum behind the die-cut stars to hide the writing on the stickers but allow the light to shine through. I applied a little spectrum noir clear sparkle to the vellum for a little extra sparkle. Then I adhered the bottom half of the night sky panel over the circuit panel with ATG adhesive. Next I added adhesive to the back of the Stitched Hillside pop-up flaps and closed the card to adhere the flaps to the night sky background. Finally I adhered the critters with ATG adhesive to finish the card!
Each stop on the hop has a different Harry Potter themed giveaway so make sure to stop by each blog! I’m giving away either both of the Sweet Stamp Shop mini sets: Wizards and Grand Wizard OR the Magical Friends set. The winner will choose which prize they’d prefer! I would have to go with the movies… I saw it first (when I was still really young) before I learned how to read books!

Love love love your card😍 I have read all the books and have seen all the movies many many times. My two most memorable Harry Potter moments were two christmases ago they had a Harry Potter movie on every night. Myself and my two boys sat down every night and throughly enjoyed one. The following July we were in Glasgow on holidays and got to go to a launch party for the new book of the play. Great memories.

How could anyone not love both the books AND the movies? It’s difficult for me to pick, but I guess if I could only pick one it would be the books. Your card is stunning! The night sky breathtaking and the patronuses are adorable.
Lynn says
This is great – I love Harry too!
Emily Daniels says
This card is EPIC!! I love the clever idea of using their patronus (patronuses?! patroni?! lol). I prefer the books because they have so much more than they could fit into the movies but, the movies also hold a dear space in my heart 🙂

I have read and watched the first three books and movies, BUT I own both sets. I want to read all the books before I watch the movies, so I need to get back to the books, so I can watch the movies. Love the card, but then I love most things from the series.
Joy Brimingham says
Oh Jessica, this is so cute! I love the Harry Potter books. My family has enjoyed listening to the audio books the most. The ones read by Jim Dale are the best! Thank you for such a fun blog hop!

How cute. Love Harry Potter. But how do you recycle this card?
jessica frost-ballas says
Hi Julika! I’d hope whoever gets the card would keep it forever and ever 😉 but you could pull the battery out to dispose of it properly once the battery dies!

This is super cool Jess! The chino lights are really spectacular!
Holly Graham says
I honestly liked both the books and the movies equally for different reasons, but if asked, I’d recommend reading the books first then watching the movies.
