Good morning! I’m thrilled to join a few crafters for a Harry Potter Blog Hop today and I’m so excited to share my (possibly excessively) multi-interactive Harry Potter-inspired card!
I created a video tutorial to try and explain my card and you can watch it below or at my Youtube channel!
Honestly, it’s not nearly as complicated as it looks…and it really is probably easiest explained by watching the video but here goes!
I started by creating my night sky/galaxy background on a piece of Tim Holtz distress paper cut to 5.5″ by 8.5″. I blended wilted violet, salty ocean, and cracked pistachio distress oxide ink onto the panel and then blended black soot over the top. I let bits of the color peek through the black soot and added a little more salty ocean and cracked pistachio on top. After it dried I spritzed it with water using two different sprayers to get a variety of water droplet sizes. I blotted off the excess water and let it dry again. Then I spritzed it with WPlus9 shimmer spray (I believe this is discontinued but you could substitute it with Tsukineko frost or sparkle spray for a similar look) and dried it with my heat gun. Finally I flicked the panel with white acrylic paint to create stars and then set it aside to dry completely.
Next I stamped critters from Mama Elephant’s Otterly Adorable, Lunar Animals, Playful Pups, and Reindeer Games with copic-friendly ink on Neenah solar white cardstock and then colored them with copics to resemble various patronuses from the Harry Potter series.
These are the colors I used:
Harry’s Stag:
- E49, E47, E27, E25, E23, E21
Ron’s Jack Russell Terrier:
- E19, E17, E15, E09
Hermione’s Otter:
- E79, E77, E74, E71, E70, R20
Luna’s Hare:
- N4, N2, N1, N0, and R20
Ginny’s Horse:
- E09, E08, E07, E00, E0000, 0 colorless blender
And here’s a close-up of some of the critters:
After I colored the critters I cut them out with my Scan N Cut and then colored the white border with my N6 copic marker so that they would blend better with the background.
Then I created a circuit using my Chibitronics LED stickers on the black cardstock base so that the stars would light up. I also adhered the Stitched Hillside Pop-Up from Lawn Fawn die-cut from black cardstock which helped hide the battery from the Chibitronics circuit.
I adhered vellum behind the die-cut stars to hide the writing on the stickers but allow the light to shine through. I applied a little spectrum noir clear sparkle to the vellum for a little extra sparkle. Then I adhered the bottom half of the night sky panel over the circuit panel with ATG adhesive. Next I added adhesive to the back of the Stitched Hillside pop-up flaps and closed the card to adhere the flaps to the night sky background. Finally I adhered the critters with ATG adhesive to finish the card!

Oh my God!! Harry Potter!! This card is cute! I absolutely love the books better, while I enjoy watching the movies, I like the books better because they explain a lot of things that happen in the movies that you didn’t understand. And they also give you some back story. I love this Harry Potter card blog hop.

What an amazing card! I love that it lights up. You used so many techniques I have not tried yet but am looking forward to try soon. I love Harry Potter books more than the movies because there is more detail in the books which could not be added to the movies due to time issues. The movies were awesome too and my son and I loved going to see them ( He was a young adult at the time they came out and still loved going with his mom – I am really lucky).

Super cute – I love that you used their patronus’ to represent all of them. It’s hard to choose between the books and the movies, I’d have to say the books are my favorite because you get the whole detailed story, but I also love the movies because I can watch them while I’m crafting.

I prefer the movies to the books, cause they really engulf you. But I LOVE the books also. My fav movie is Goblet of fire.
Your card is awesome, and I love the light up effect.
