Good morning! I’m thrilled to join a few crafters for a Harry Potter Blog Hop today and I’m so excited to share my (possibly excessively) multi-interactive Harry Potter-inspired card!
I created a video tutorial to try and explain my card and you can watch it below or at my Youtube channel!
Honestly, it’s not nearly as complicated as it looks…and it really is probably easiest explained by watching the video but here goes!
I started by creating my night sky/galaxy background on a piece of Tim Holtz distress paper cut to 5.5″ by 8.5″. I blended wilted violet, salty ocean, and cracked pistachio distress oxide ink onto the panel and then blended black soot over the top. I let bits of the color peek through the black soot and added a little more salty ocean and cracked pistachio on top. After it dried I spritzed it with water using two different sprayers to get a variety of water droplet sizes. I blotted off the excess water and let it dry again. Then I spritzed it with WPlus9 shimmer spray (I believe this is discontinued but you could substitute it with Tsukineko frost or sparkle spray for a similar look) and dried it with my heat gun. Finally I flicked the panel with white acrylic paint to create stars and then set it aside to dry completely.
Next I stamped critters from Mama Elephant’s Otterly Adorable, Lunar Animals, Playful Pups, and Reindeer Games with copic-friendly ink on Neenah solar white cardstock and then colored them with copics to resemble various patronuses from the Harry Potter series.
These are the colors I used:
Harry’s Stag:
- E49, E47, E27, E25, E23, E21
Ron’s Jack Russell Terrier:
- E19, E17, E15, E09
Hermione’s Otter:
- E79, E77, E74, E71, E70, R20
Luna’s Hare:
- N4, N2, N1, N0, and R20
Ginny’s Horse:
- E09, E08, E07, E00, E0000, 0 colorless blender
And here’s a close-up of some of the critters:
After I colored the critters I cut them out with my Scan N Cut and then colored the white border with my N6 copic marker so that they would blend better with the background.
Then I created a circuit using my Chibitronics LED stickers on the black cardstock base so that the stars would light up. I also adhered the Stitched Hillside Pop-Up from Lawn Fawn die-cut from black cardstock which helped hide the battery from the Chibitronics circuit.
I adhered vellum behind the die-cut stars to hide the writing on the stickers but allow the light to shine through. I applied a little spectrum noir clear sparkle to the vellum for a little extra sparkle. Then I adhered the bottom half of the night sky panel over the circuit panel with ATG adhesive. Next I added adhesive to the back of the Stitched Hillside pop-up flaps and closed the card to adhere the flaps to the night sky background. Finally I adhered the critters with ATG adhesive to finish the card!

Your card for the Harry Potter hop is just gorgeous, like your galaxy background a lot.
And a great tip of colouring the border around the cut out shapes, thank you for sharing it in your video.
I like the movies and te books (have them all and read several times).
The Harry Potter Exhibition was here in Holland and it was awesome to see all items and clothes.

I think I prefer the films, the earlier ones. I must say I’m not a huge fan of jks writing style, but I do think the world she created is great. And this is such a beautiful card that depicts the magic of the world really well 🙂 thanks for the great video too, enjoyed it!

Super cute card! I love that the stars really shine! I have only watched the movies and loved them, but my son who is obsessed really loves the books more and is always telling me what is missing in the movies lol

Love your card Jessica! I have never tried chibitronics, but some day I hope to. Perfect sentiment too!

What a fun idea to use critters to create a Patronus scene! Books for the win! The movies are fine, but they are only a collage of the books and don’t tell the full story.

Great card! I did enjoy the movies, I never read the books, but my good friend ( who did read the book) said that big pieces were missing so I am looking forward to discovering all this when I read them with my son in a year or two

Wow, that sky is gorgeous and I love your adorable little scene…including the silver embossed sentiment! I love both the movies and the books, but books always let me imagine more…so I probably like the books a bit more.

Oh Jessica, this card is just awesome! I have never seen those LED stickers before but what a magical effect! I’m not much of a reader so I enjoyed the Harry Potter movies the most. I even loved seeing a few specials on how they made the movies and the special effect. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

Your card looks wonderful! Love the starry background and the silver embossed script on top.
I love both the books and the movies – can’t really decide. My daughter would probably say the books, though. She’s been reading them since she was in elementary school and is now in high school. <3
