Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to all those who are celebrating today! My husband and I (and our four-footed herd) are at my parents’ home and looking forward to eating lots of turkey, stuffing, and pie later this afternoon! I’ll be off social media for most of the day but thought I’d share a quick Thanksgiving-inspired card!
I wanted to do a little distress ink watercoloring and decided to use a slightly non-traditional autumn palette (non-traditional colors…imagine that 😉 )! I started by stamping the pretty Fractile Leaves from Simon Says Stamp with versamark and heat-embossed them with gold tinsel embossing powder. Then I watercolored the leaves with a diluted wash of distress inks in mustard seed, seedless preserves, dusty concord, and spiced marmalade. I let that dry and then I went back with a #2 round paintbrush and added small flicks of distress ink.
It’s kinda funny…when I started adding the flicks I really liked where it was going…but by the time I had finished all the leaves I was not a fan. So I actually laid down another wash over some of the leaf sections (that are now hidden by the sentiment) and REALLY didn’t like that. So the flicks remained. Once I added some splatter they grew on me a little but I think overall they work. The biggest problem is that my hands were really cold when I was working so I was having issues with delicate flicks…they’re much thicker and bolder than I intended them to be. Oh well…you win some, you lose some. 😉
Anyway, while the splatter was drying I stamped the sentiment from You Got This onto dark purple cardstock with versamark and heat-embossed it with gold embossing powder. I trimmed that down to a thin label and adhered it over my panel with foam mounting tape. Finally I added a few metallic gold sequins to finish the card.
Don’t forget that Simon Says Stamp has a huge 30% off sale on all Simon-branded products today only! So if you’ve finished your dinner you might want to check it out before midnight! 😉 You can find all the items on sale here.

I read flicks, but thought spatter; and didn’t understand why you didn’t like it, I thought it looked pretty. Then I realized what you were referring to, and I like the flicks too! Thinner would have been pretty, but I really like the thick flicks. It’s an uplifting card that matches the day.
Have a happy Thanksgiving, and a safe trip home!
