I can’t sleep…ideas for random gardening things keep popping into my head. So I decided to not try and fight it and just take the inspiration and run with it. So this will be mostly a photo post as I find things that fit the ideas in my head!
And it seems like for the most part tonight I’m envisioning the front yard so I’ll run with that. My current plan for the front yard is hot colors (reds, oranges, and yellows). I saw it referred to on a gardening blog as a “sunset” garden (compared to an “ocean” garden) and I think I prefer that description as it would allow me to incorporate a few shades of pink. Anyway, in the front I’m considering the following plants/flowers/trees:
Japanese Red Maple
Nandina
Red Twig Dogwood
Black-Eyed Susans
Angel’s Trumpet (yellow)
Forsythia
Trumpet Vine
Gaura
Bee Balm
“Royal Red” Buddleia
Poppies
Daylilies
Coreopsis
And in the fall, lots of mums!
Hmm…it seems inspiration has come and gone…and I might actually be ready for sleep!

Jessica, I am loving this blog of yours. I signed up for food but watching you excited about your dream home gets me all excited for my future! Thanks!!! I can’t wait to see how it progresses. My favorite sunset looking flowes are those roses that look like a sunset that have the red tips and fade down to a pale yellow. I expect an herb garden in that back yard!!!

Thanks JoAnna! Of course, there will be a full herb and vegetable garden in the backyard along with a few apple trees! 😉 Anyway, yeah, I was pleasantly surprised at just how doable a custom build actually was. I thought custom-built houses were reserved solely for super rich people (of which I am NOT) but no, it was very much in our price range. And I love those roses, too!! 🙂 I also like the peachy ones that fade to pale yellow!
