Good morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and lucrative post-holiday crafty shopping! 😉 I am personally recovering from an excess of Christmas cookies *she says as she eats another one*…
Today is my last guest post for Concord & 9th. I really loved having the opportunity to create with the Written in the Stars and Tree Hugs sets and look forward to their next release in January! I decided to combine Tree Hugs with the By Your Side die set. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you may occasionally see me post about my backyard bluebirds. For the last two years I’ve had the same bluebird pair nesting in my backyard and this year 6 of their babies have decided to hang around with them. At any given moment I can look out of my back windows and see one or two bluebirds which absolutely thrills me! So anyway, I wasn’t confident of my ability to watercolor a realistic looking bluebird so I decided to do a more “imaginative” bluebird with the use of my mermaid lagoon distress ink! 😉
I stamped the birch trees with memento tuxedo black ink and then did a second generation stamping to create a shadow. Next I added the lines and knots in the trunks so that each one would look a little different. I die-cut the pair of birds and then used a fine pen to add lines to the branch to resemble the tree trunks. I masked off the trunks with post-it tape and used a blending tool to add mermaid lagoon distress ink to my birds. I popped up their wings and then adhered them to the trunks with foam mounting tape. Finally I stamped the sentiment in matching blue pigment ink and heat-embossed it with clear powder.
Not exactly what I see when I look outside but I love the vibrant blue against the black and white background. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting and have a fantastic day!
