Good morning! Once again I’m guest-designing for Purple Onion Designs and today I decided to break out my watercolors for a wintery Christmas scene!
Whenever there’s one of Kathy Rac’s Coloring Challenges going on I try to push myself to try new coloring techniques or practice ones I don’t use often. I can’t always participate daily but at least I’m pushing myself out of my box when I can! 😉 No-line watercoloring REALLY intimidates me but I’m glad I tried it with this scene! To start I stamped the birch trees with barely beige no-line ink. Then I used my mijello mission gold watercolors to paint each tree. I also added a few details with a tiny round 0 paintbrush! I also painted some snowy hills to ground my scene! I dried it with my heat gun and then started on my sky. I wet the areas around my tree and then dropped in shades of teal, blue, and a little purple. I blended them together with a damp brush and then let it dry. Then I splattered it with white gouache and set it aside to dry while I worked on my fox!
I wanted my fox to stand out a little more so I stamped him with amalgam ink and heat set it with my heat gun. Then I used mijello mission gold watercolors to paint him in shades of grey and teal. I fussy cut him and adhered him to my scene with foam mounting tape. Next I stamped the sentiment onto black cardstock with versamark and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. I trimmed it down to a fishtail banner and adhered it to the top of my card. Finally I added a little spectrum noir clear sparkle to the fox’s hat and scarf. I also added a little nuvo crystal glaze across the card and sprinkled it with chunky and prisma glitter to finish the card with a little extra sparkle!
And that’s it! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
