Good morning!! Here’s my fourth entry into the Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop! This is really new territory for me…I went back and forth about posting this card but here goes…
My first public attempt at hand-lettering…I was really inspired by Christine’s hand-lettered art this weekend and after taking the Love Your Lettering class at Studio Calico a few months ago I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I saw this lyric on a coffee mug in a local cafe a few months ago and decided that it would make a perfect coffee card!
I definitely need to work on my regular font. I’m fairly happy with my script fonts but straight letters…yikes. Ha ha. Yeah I still have some practicing to do! 😉
Anyway, I started off by taping a piece of watercolor paper to my work surface and mapping out a layout with a pencil. I used a ruler to ensure that my lines were straight and evenly spaced. Then I lightly sketched out the words with a pencil. I started off with using the deep brown Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Brush marker to outline the words. Then I used my Gansai Tambi watercolors and a #2 round brush to go over the outlines and paint the thicker lines of the words. Once I was happy with the way it looked I let it dry naturally and then erased the pencil lines carefully.
To finish the card I stamped the mug from Simon Says Stamp What’s Brewing with WPlus9 Old Gold ink and colored in the coffee with the same Gansai Tambi watercolor. I added glossy accents to the coffee to give it some shine. Next I added steam from the My Favorite Things Perk Up stamp set stamped once in WPlus9 Old Gold ink and once in Delicata Golden Glitz pigment ink. To finish the card I added a sprinkling of flat matte gold sequins and adhered the panel to a card base of Simon Says Stamp Dark Chocolate cardstock!
