Good morning!! Today’s a special day on my blog as it’s my very first attempt at making a video tutorial! Well, actually I’m lying…the video you’re going to see is actually my 4th attempt at making a video tutorial! The other three videos have been deleted from my computer and will never been seen by anyone besides me! Yikes!
So anyway, yes, here is my first card video! I did my best to cut out long stretches of silence and rambling bits but unfortunately I couldn’t get rid of all of the “umm’s” and “okay’s”. Hopefully it’ll just get better from here on out! Anyway, if you’ve missed any of my previous Shaker Week posts you can find them here, here, here, here, and here! Don’t forget to comment each day for the chance to win a $10 gift certificate to The Ton Stamps so you can pick up some gorgeous beads, sequins, and gems for your own shaker cards! I’ll announce the winner tomorrow with my final shaker card!
Here’s my card for today:
And here’s the video (I promise I got myself centered better on the screen after the first minute or so…don’t give up on me that quickly!) 😉

If you’re not inclined to watch the video here’s the basic idea: I started off by heat-embossing the sentiment from WPlus9’s Happy Mail with Versafine onyx black ink and Ranger superfine clear embossing powder. Then I used Broken China and Mowed Lawn distress inks to watercolor the background panel. I set that aside to dry and then stamped the squirrels from the same stamp set with Memento tuxedo black ink onto a scrap piece of Neenah solar white cardstock. I colored them with copic markers and then used the coordinating dies to die-cut them.
Once the watercolored panel was dry I lined up three hearts from Memory Box Cherub Hearts and die-cut them to create thought “bubbles”. I adhered acetate to the back of the watercolored panel and then cut fun foam to fit behind the acetate. Once that fun foam was adhered I went a little wild and filled the hearts with a variety of seed beads, sequins, and heart confetti from The Ton. Here’s a list of what went into each heart:
Small Heart:
- Pink Peach Matte seed beads
- Pink Peach Pearl seed beads
- My Tutu 4mm sequins
- Sugar Daddy 4mm sequins
- Gold Heart confetti
- Pink Heart confetti
Medium Heart:
- Pink Pearl Seed Beads
- Clear Pink Coral Seed Beads
- My Tutu 4mm sequins
- Sugar Daddy 4mm sequins
- Taxi Night 4mm sequins
- Sitting’ Pretty Pink 6mm sequins
- Gold Heart confetti
- Pink Heart confetti
Large Heart:
- Clear Pink Coral Seed Beads
- Clear Fuchsia Seed Beads
- Sugar Daddy 4mm sequins
- Sugar Daddy 6mm sequins
- Taxi Night 4mm sequins
- Taxi Night 6mm sequins
- Don’t Wait On Me 6mm sequins
- Sittin’ Pretty Pink 6mm sequins
- Gold Heart Confetti
- Pink Heart Confetti
As the hearts get bigger they get darker pink creating an ombre effect! My idea is that the boy squirrel was thinking of his love so the girl squirrel is one of the elements in the largest heart. On the inside of the card I masked off one of the sentiments so I could get the words “always and forever” which I thought fit perfectly with the sentiment “you are my favorite thoughts” on the front of the card! To finish the card I adhered it to a top-folding white A2 card base and adhered the boy squirrel with a little foam mounting tape! I think it’s a perfect card to give to that special someone in your life either for an anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or just to say I love you! 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by today and for all your support! If you would have told me last year that I’d be making card videos I would have laughed until I couldn’t breathe! 😉 As this is my first venture, I greatly appreciate any feedback you might have! Have a fantastic weekend and see you tomorrow!!

I thought you did a great job on the video and I totally love the cute card. IF I was to give you any advice, it would be to talk a little louder when you’re almost whispering to yourself! Making those comments (think Laura Bassen) — just be yourself! Congratulations on this achievement, Jessica! Loved the video.

Well done on your very first video tutorial for this cute card. Thanks for throwing in some useful pieces of advice every now and then. The only thing you might want to check is the sound volume.
Marianne says
Seems you have already been made aware of the volume issue. Didn’t mean to rub it in lol.
