Good morning! Today I’m hopping along with the Studio Katia team to celebrate the release of Katia’s newest set, Paws for Kindness, and the organization, Pets in the Classroom! Studio Katia is donating $10 from each sale of Paws for Kindness to support grants for the Pets in the Classroom organization! I fondly remember my 7th grade science teacher who had a whole menagerie of pets in her classroom and it was in the process of taking care of her rabbit over my 7th grade holiday breaks and summer break that I decided to someday have a rabbit of my own. And, of course, I treasured the years that I had with Nestle and Cookie!
Today I decided to focus on the Love for Paws stencil Katia’s releasing along with smaller images from the Paws for Kindness bundle to create a trio of pet sympathy cards. These are NEVER cards I want to create but they are ones that are important to have on hand when needed. Most of the time I create cards as I need them for special occasions but sympathy cards are the exception to that. I try to keep a small stash of those available at all times because usually I am not in the creative mindset to make them when they’re actually needed. With that in mind I created two different styles of cards that can fit different personalities or situations of the receipients.
For my first two cards I placed the Love for Paws stencil over a panel of kraft cardstock and lightly blended white pigment ink over the stencil. I let them dry while I worked on the rest of the card.
Meanwhile I die-cut two white cardstock hearts and two slightly larger vellum hearts using the Hero Arts Nesting Heart Infinity dies. Then I stamped the sentiment from Paws for Kindness onto the white cardstock hearts with versafine and heat-embossed them with clear embossing powder. I also stamped the dog and cat bowls and hearts with versafine and heat-embossed them on white cardstock. I colored those with copic markers and then die-cut them with the coordinating dies. Then to finish the cards I simply layered the hearts together and adhered them to my stenciled panel. Then I added the hearts and bowls with liquid adhesive and finished each card by adding a little nuvo crystal glaze to each bowl.
My next card is quite a bit brighter and could actually be used as a pet get well card or an encouragement card for a pet lover. This time I applied foil transfer gel over the Love for Paws stencil on a piece of kraft cardstock. I let that dry for a few hours and then ran it through my laminator with Thermoweb rainbow foil. I ran it through the laminator twice just to make sure it was adhered well. Then I peeled off the foil and was left with this gorgeous design.
I finished this card by adding a layered vellum and kraft heart with a sentiment from Paws for Kindness heat-embossed in white. Since the background is SO vibrant I wanted to keep the rest of the card a bit more muted.
And that’s it for me! Make sure you hop along for more inspiration using the awesome Paws for Kindness bundle!
