Good morning! The October 2018 kit from Simon Says Stamp is now available and it is absolutely amazing! Sketched Flowers contains a GORGEOUS stamp set, alcohol inks, alcohol lift ink, foil, cardstock, yupo paper, foiled cards….it’s packed! If you prefer you can also purchase the Sketched Flowers stamp set individually here.
I created a video for this kit showing an unboxing and two cards that you can watch below or at my YouTube channel here!
I really loved this entire kit so my first two cards use ONLY kit items with the exception of a strip of black cardstock and a few embellishments! Later this week I’ll share some cards using the stamp set with other supplies for those of you who only plan to purchase the stamp set!
To start I stamped the large flower arrangement onto a piece of heavyweight yupo with versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. The yupo included in the kit isn’t heavyweight so it’s not the best for embossing as the plastic paper will warp but it’s great for regular alcohol ink blending. Heavyweight yupo stands up to embossing powder much better. Just make sure your heat gun is really hot before you bring it to the paper and then keep it moving to avoid warping the paper. Next I used the alcohol inks to paint the flowers. I kept it to an autumn palette and used the included alcohol inks only. I squirted a few drops into my alcohol ink palette and then used a plastic paintbrush to apply ink to the flowers. I used a little alcohol blending solution to blend out the ink and mixed a little of the yellow and orange together to create a third shade. Once I was done I let it dry while I worked on my second card.
Once it was dry I trimmed it down to an A2 panel. Then I stamped a sentiment onto black cardstock and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. I trimmed the sentiment down to a thin label and adhered it to the panel. Finally I added a few ebony black nuvo crystal drops to finish the card.
My second card uses alcohol lift ink. To start I spread alcohol ink blending solution across a piece of yupo paper and added a few drops of yellow and orange. Then I used an air puffer to move and blend the ink around. I added a little stream ink to the center and continued to use the puffer to move the ink around and dry it. Once it was totally dry I placed it in my MISTI. I inked the floral arrangement stamp with alcohol lift ink and then stamped it on to the alcohol inked background. Next I placed a piece of white cardstock in the MISTI and restamped the floral arrangement which transferred the alcohol inks to the white cardstock. Unfortunately I realized that I had not cleaned my stamp as thoroughly as I thought so a little black transferred to the cardstock…however the more I looked at it the more I kinda liked the grey that it added to the yellow, orange, and teal. So I kept it!
I trimmed it down to an 4 by five and a quarter panel and then stamped the sentiment over it with versafine before heat-embossing it with clear embossing powder. I adhered the panel to a black card base and finished the card with a few iridescent sequins.
I hope this gives you some ideas for the new Sketched Flowers kit! Remember, you can subscribe to their no-obligation kits and receive them monthly for $29.99, or purchase them each month for $34.99 (while supplies last). I have a feeling this beautiful kit is going to sell out VERY quickly so if you’re interested I’d recommend heading over and picking up the Simon Says Stamp October kit as soon as possible! 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Can you tell me where you got your “air puffer”?

I think my model is discontinued but came from amazon. It’s a camera lens cleaner. You can find a variety on amazon or at a local camera shop. The ranger distress marker spritzer works too!

Jess, what kind of brush did you use to paint with the alcohol inks? I heard you say a plastic brush, but I don’t know about those. I have the ranger alcohol tool kit.
jessica frost-ballas says
Yes it’s the brush that comes in the tool kit. The bristles are plastic!

Jessica, isn’t that the best kit ever? I enjoyed your video and LOVE your cards!

Where did you get your alcohol ink pallet? Do you put alcohol ink in it and let it dry or do you have to clean it out every time? I love your cards, youtube channel and blog as well. Thanks for sharing.

On the occasion of a card for a new class online, I used this stamp from Simon Says Stamp of a kit which seemed not so “old” and suddenly I plunge back into his gallery and I discover your card!
I love the brillant colors on your card! Thanks for sharing!
