Good morning!! I am thrilled to be a stop on the Simon Says Stamp Love Release Blog Hop today! Simon Says Stamp just released a fabulous new collection of dies and stamps and if you haven’t checked it out yet you really should!!

For the hop today I used the gorgeous Folk Dance stencil along with some BRAND NEW distress oxides!!
While at Creativation last weekend I was given the brand new distress oxide colors and I couldn’t wait to play with them! I decided to pair them with some shimmery nuvo glimmer paste for a glittery, ombre design! I started by taping the stencil down over a piece of Simon Says Stamp Soft Navy cardstock. Then I blended shaded lilac, blueprint sketch, and wilted violet distress oxides over the cardstock. Unlike the original distress inks, distress oxides will show up on dark cardstock! After I finished blending, I spread a thin layer of nuvo glimmer paste in moonstone over the stencil and then lifted the stencil to reveal the design.
The iridescence of the glimmer paste did AMAZING things to the distress oxides…I wish I could capture the shimmer of this card in a photo…it’s absolutely stunning! After I finished staring at the panel I set it aside to dry while I worked on the rest of the card. I recently received a Gemini Jr and have been playing around with it to see exactly what it can do! It was one of these experiments that led to this look. I folded a scrap piece of soft navy cardstock in half and ran it through the Gemini Jr with the Kindness Matters die. I did not include the thin metal shim in the plate sandwich. If I had the Gemini would have easily cut through both pieces of cardstock. Because I didn’t, the top layer cut beautifully but the bottom layer was left with a heavily dry-embossed design. I could have achieved a similar look using an embossing mat but it wouldn’t be quite so defined.
Really, if you’ve been looking for a new electric die-cutting machine I cannot recommend the Gemini Jr enough. I was already excited about it but after visiting the Crafters Companion booth at Creativation and seeing ALL the things this machine can do…I am so SO thrilled that I have one!
Once the stenciled panel was dry I trimmed it down and adhered it to a soft navy card base. Then I added a tangle of metallic silver thread behind the sentiment and then popped it up with a layer of foam mounting tape. I traced over the letters with a spectrum noir clear sparkle pen and added a few iridescent clear sequins for a little more shimmer. The purply-aqua shine of the sequins matches the card PERFECTLY and I love that the sentiment stands out but doesn’t take away from the background!
And that’s it! 🙂

Gorgeous card Jess! I love this stencil! You just helped me fix a problem I once had! I used the same glimmer paste with a stencil but there wasn’t enough color in it to make it look pretty! Now I know to use the oxide inks to fix that! Thanks so much for the tip! Loving this release and blog hop with all it’s talented designers! Best way to start my weekend! Thanks for being here!
