In the new house we have this long hallway the separates our guest room and bathroom from the music studio. It took several months for me to come up with an idea on how to decorate that space. One of my students had a wall in their house that they had every guest and visitor sign. I thought it was a really cute idea and wanted to incorporate something like that for my students. Then over the summer I saw a Facebook meme that had the saying, “Some people dream of meeting their favorite musicians…I teach mine” and I loved it! At that point I had just finished this vinyl project and the lightbulb clicked on!
So I created this canvas to hang in the hallway. I designed the saying on my Silhouette Cameo and cut it out with vinyl. I painted the canvas with gesso to give the vinyl something to stick to and then I applied the vinyl transfer. I sealed it with a few more coats of gesso and then let my students sign it with black Sharpie markers. In retrospect, I should have either used a different color vinyl or had them sign in different colors but I really like the way it turned out! There’s plenty of room to add more signatures as time goes by and I think it will be fun, especially for the younger kids, for my students to see their signature as the years go by!
There are a few more students who need to sign it but we finally hung it up on the wall this weekend and I couldn’t wait any longer to share it with you!
Now, if we could just stop with the snow, ice, and freezing rain so I could actually see my students…that’d be great!
