Good morning! I am so excited to be a stop on the hop celebrating the fantastic September release from Waffle Flower!! Today I’m sharing a slimline watercolored card using the stunning Poppy Hawthorn stamp set!!
I also created a video you can watch below or over at my YouTube channel (and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel this month for a chance to win a $100 gift card to the crafty shop of your choice)!
Watercoloring flowers always makes me nervous (especially on video, eek!) but I’m really happy with how today’s card turned out!
This is definitely a different palette than my normal comfort zone but as soon as we hit September I’m in autumn mode and I decided to use that for my card inspiration today! To start I stamped the Poppy Hawthorn stamp twice onto watercolor paper with versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I watercolored them with Altenew watercolor brush markers. Instead of bringing the markers directly to paper I squeezed them into the palettes of my watercolor mat and then painted them with a paintbrush. I used Warm Sunshine and Fresh Lemon for the yellow flowers and Autumn Blaze and Crimson for the orangey-red flowers. I also used watered down Jet Black to create my grey leaves. Once I was done watercoloring I die-cut them with the coordinating dies. THen I added a few more touches with polychromos pencils in Cadmium Orange, Light Cadmium Red, Scarlet Red, and Middle Cadmium Red.
Next I blended a background of Broken China, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot distress oxide ink and then splattered the panel with water a few times and blotted off the excess. I trimmed it down to 3.75″ by 8″ and added splatters of white acrylic paint. While that was drying I stamped the sentiment from Poppy Hawthorn onto black cardstock with versamark and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder before die-cutting it with the coordinating dies. Once the panel was dry I adhered my flowers. I trimmed off the excess and used the leftovers to fill in a few empty spots. Then I added my sentiment in the middle. Finally I added accents with a white gel pen and a posca paint pen and finished the card with a few clear and white enamel dots!
And that’s it! I hope my card inspired you today and I’d love to know what you’ll be adding to your shopping cart! 😉
